Translational Medicine-Biomanufacturing
Rapid advances in biotechnology, automation and engineering have led to new classes of therapeutics and are creating demand for more efficient manufacturing processes. This has resulted in a growing need for engineers who understand the challenges and approaches involved in manufacturing both current and next-generation therapies.
The UCLA Samueli Master of Engineering’s Translational Medicine-Biomanufacturing track integrates faculty expertise from Bioengineering, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Computer Science and Medicine. The curriculum has been developed with input from industry representatives at leading biopharmaceutical companies. Students also gain industry insights through guest lectures and the capstone project. More than 20 technical elective courses are available in this area of study, covering state-of-the-art technologies relevant to therapeutics.

“With its proximity to leading biopharmaceutical companies in California and its top engineering and medical schools, UCLA is uniquely positioned to prepare students for careers in manufacturing therapeutics.”
Area Director: Prof. Daniel Kamei
